Hello, I joined this forum in the hopes of getting some bee related advice.

A few weeks ago I started to notice bees all over in different parts of our house. After time it became clear that they have some sort of nest within our ventilation system. We kill and dispose of the bees but of course as we haven't gotten to their nest they keep coming. My father is in denial of our bee problem and refuses to hire an exterminator, but it's made living in our house like living in a living nightmare. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to rid our house of the bees?

Sincerely, Mike

Are they bees or wasps? This sounds typical of wasps; the nests start breaking up at this time of year, when the queen stops laying, and if there's a nest in the roof space they tend to appear in the room below.

We had a major panic last year about this time; I was woken up by the girls, who for some reason had got up really early, because the bathroom was 'full of wasps'. By the time I'd got my clothes on, Mina, who was 11 at the time, had found the can of wasp killer and sprayed it everywhere in there, leaving nothing but dying wasps. Meanwhile Kumbi, who was 17, was refusing to come out of her bedroom until I certified that they'd been killed.

When I think wasps I think bigger and longer legs. These look like honey bees only a little smaller and not at all fuzzy.

If they aren't fuzzy they probably aren't honey bees. There are all kinds of wasps of various sizes from 1/4" long to 3 1/2" long. What most people around here call "sweat bees" are a kind of hornet. They are yellow and black and are a small version of the yellow jackets. Not as aggressive or prone to sting, but a major irritation. Bees in your house just bang on the lights and the wall, but almost never go after you.
