Are varroa dormant during the winter? If so, are there any problems with varroa that arise by overwintering nucs or hives in heated areas?

If there is no brood rearing (which around here there isn't until really late winter) then the varroa aren't reproducing. They are living ont he bees and sucking the hemalymph (blood) out of them. A lot will cause the bees to crash.
