How long does a hive have to be queenless before workers begin laying? How long does it take for a hive to be queenless with laying workers before the situaltion is hopeless for requeening? Thanks.

Figure on average about 3-4 weeks in a normal situation where a virgin queen is lost while on mating flight.
Don't really know of any hopeless situation, as brood can be fed with accompanying nurse bees (2-3) frames to correct most all situations. In hard to do cases, brood is refed a second time following 21days.
