I just brought back a new bunch of bees from a fallen tree limb . It is a big colony , filled most of 2 brood bodys .

I was hesitant to take them directly to my other bees . They seemed healthy and never saw any sign of mites . Popped open a few drone brood cells in process of extraction .

I have three spots I take my swarms I catch till I know they are clean. It is a good idea.

my home apiary has only hives that have overwintered or i feel are clean and above average.my new hives have to "graduate" to make it there.

I do now, but I didn't used to. I have two Apiaries and I keep them separate from spring, when I get inspected until fall, when I won't be shipping bees. But if I wasn't shipping bees I probably wouldn't because it's a lot of work. But then it also depends on how close your other yard is. Mine is an hour's drive.

What exactly are you quarantining them for? Mites or other deseases? And could you tell me what would a swarm be transmitting to the other hives? Equipment and used hives I could see, but a recently caught swarm?
