Let's face it,most of us beeks are relatively well off.We are warm at night and probably weigh more than we should.I think we all could spare a few lbs of honey.I encourage all on this forum to donate at least a couple of cases to your local food pantry or food kitchen.Let's spread some "sweet" cheer this holiday season.

Good idea Jack, but most food pantries will not/can not take home bottled foods. But a cash donation equal to what the honey would sell for would always be accepted at any food pantry.

My honey is packaged in clear plastic containers, sealed with a flip top cap with a safety seal and covered with a tamper resistant label. My address is on another label.Just because we bottle at home doesn't mean we should call it home bottled.I would put my honey(or your honey) up against any store bought honey any day.
My food shelf accepts it as well as any extra eggs we produce.Of course they are cleaned and packaged, not fresh from the coop. The local Rotary club(or was it the Lions) produced hundreds of pounds of fresh produce from a volunteer staffed garden this past summer and all was accepted.
I think you will always find that some people will abuse the system.I have come to the conclusion that a certain percentage of people are scum.
It's the rest that I am concerned about. The majority of the food shelf patrons are elderly, disabled, temporarily out of work or employed in minimum wage jobs. Many are families with small children.

I was fortunate to see "A Christmas Carol" performed onstage this past weekend. Even though I hear that story every year, it never fails to awaken some new kindness in me.
It's not a question of whether someone deserves a gift or not. That is beside the point.
As Scrooge discovered, the real secret of giving a gift is that it feels so good to do it.
If we are able, it is a privilege to give.
I just mailed a check to our local food pantry, and I feel great about it.
Merry Christmas,
Ed
