I hear about Fondant in several threads on Beesouce. What is it?

Corn syrup, sugar and water. Its a base for bakeries to use in pastries and such. You can get it at bakery supply companies for around 30 dollars for a 50lb block. Its rather stiff and can be sliced in parts if needed.

Would this be as good as, equal to, or better than cooking up some sugar candy for the bees? Is it something they can feed on during the freezing weather of early spring without access to water?
