View Full Version : which corn syrup formulation?
Would anyone care to weigh in on which corn syrup formulation is better for bees. Is it the "42" or "55" is better for bees? I would assume you get the most bang for the buck with the one that has the most calories per gallon? Thanks for your feedback.

One study I read said 55 is better for fall feeding and resist crystalization better than 42. 42 was recommended for spring feeding because it is more affordable.

Most places only carry the 55
I have found both available, the 55 a little more expensive, but presumably better for the bees. I am trying to settle a debate with a fellow beekeeper whoa is very difficult to reason with. Every piece of literature I have seen on the matter recommends the 55. Does anybody out there have the ability to calculate the actual calories per gallon, and how about indigestible solids or other additives?

Is is more expensive because it contains more
solids. For spring feeding one can always add
water to get the % of solids into the 2:1 area.
Can't go the other way with the other.

We use hfcs55. i am not sure exacty why or what the difference is. I assume is has to due with thickness, And water percentage. We hav used 44 when we got a deal on a load, and can't say there was any negative side effects.
