This is my second year beekeeping, my first year didn't go so well... one of my colonies died and the second is very weak. I had am cleaning up my equipment for some new bees... I noticed that on the bottom screen board there were all these small white "things"; does anyone know what they are? I also noticed in one of the frames there were a bunch of small white rice looking items (similiar to the ones in the picture)- probably about 5-6 per cell. Just hoping this isn't some horrible bee disease :(

looks like wax cells from the bees belly's that fell off and landed on the screen.

Thanks, King- do they sometimes store wax cells in the actual cells themselves? Thanks.

No, they don't store them in cells.

I've only heard of these wax flakes being called "scales." and I don't get confused over a cell (as in honey comb cell) and the wax flakes.

What you see in the cells is probably granulated honey.
