I would like to put a bee magazine on my Christmas "Wish List". I know that there are two magazines (American Bee Journal & Bee Culture). Which magazine do you subscribe to, and what do you like about it? What are the differences between the two?

I am a fairly new beekeeper (just finished my first year). So I am not really looking for anything too scholastic. Just informative and interesting.

i get and enjoy both. BC may be a little less technical, though.

Both are written in plain language and fun to read. I don't think that it is redundant to try a subscription to both if you have reading time. If pressed hard, my preference is ABJ, for no good reason.

I've seen `em both. I had to choose one or the other, for budgetary reasons (I'm broke). I chose Bee Culture.

I have both magazines they both have their pros and cons. ABJ seems to have alot of stories from around the world. While the stories are interesting, learning about wall hives in India doesn't really help me manage my hives here. I'm probably just too critical.

The bottom line: I wouldn't get rid of either.

I also subscribe to the Speedy Bee. Save your money. Its not worth the stamp to send in your subscription form.

I get both, but usually enjoy Bee Culture the most, partly because of the mix of educational and entertaining reading. By the way, both offer a subscription discount if you belong to a beekeeping organization, at least last time I checked, but they don't advertise it. Maybe with the discount you could afford both.

I subscribed to ABJ, mainly because I am new and the local bee association recommended it. I agree with Dan that ABJ tends to have many stories from outside the US. Interesting, but mostly irrelevant to my interests. I'm still trying to understand the newpaper method of combining hives.

I subscribe to both American Bee Journal & Bee Culture, they both have their pros and cons. ABJ seems more often have academics published, and BC has a good deal of easy-reading articles. If I had to pick one and only one I'd flip a coin.

I only have to repeat what most people have already said, get both ABJ and BC. They go together like peas and carrots. They are one of the best tools you can get.
