Hello all! I made a split from a hive on April 14th. I put three frames of brood in it and 1 frame of honey and pollen and today, I just put a 5th frame of undrawn foundation in it. When I was inserting the frame, I decided to look and see how the nuc was doing. I saw a few problems that I would like peoples opinion on.
1) I saw a lot of really small black ants. I am not sure what to do about it. I do not want to put the hive on a hive stand with legs. Currently it is on some bricks. I was thinking of podwering them with cinnamon. Any thoughts?
2) when I looked in the frames, I saw brood that had emerged half way and than died. Why is this? I do not understand it. The weather has been pretty good lately.
3) I also noticed that larvea had little black spots on it. I am not sure what those little black spots are. I did not take any out and I am somewhat sure it is not varoa mites as the main hive I used to make the splits is really healthy with no mites. A short conclusion is that, in my opinion, it might have been the ants that killed the larvea? I am not so sure. I have never experianced these problems.
I did not see the queen on this trip however, I was not really looking for her.
I am not sure what to do. Any thoughts are suggestions would be great.
Thanks
