We want to ship a jar of our honey to some friends in Canada for Christmas. I know that some things like plants and fruits are not allowed across the border. Is honey OK? Are there any packaging restrictions? It is in a plastic jar and the lid will be taped on securely. It will also be put in a couple of plastic bags just in case it leaks. All this will be in a cardboard box with styrofoam peanuts.Have any of you sent honey to Canada from the States?
Thanks.

Hey, a lady sent me a jar from Burmuda. It said honey on the package and it went thru just fine. Canada could be different.

I've sent honey to Canada without any problems. Did get a new PO employee last time and she had to check, then had to double check with the manager when she didn't find it on the 'not allowed' list.
They did mention something about PO regulations possibly changing and it may restrict shipping liquids in the future.

Hello,
I've recieved honey from the US of A recently, and there seemed no problems getting it through customs.

Thanks for your responses everyone.
I took my package to the local Post Office today. The clerk asked something like "do you have any liquids, perishables, or flammmables?"... I said: " It's honey." He was someone that I hadn't seen at the Post Office before and at that point I was expecting him to tell me they couldn't ship it. He just continued with the paperwork and it's on it's way to Canada now....At least that is what I hope is happening!... It's still somewhat of a mystery to me since I would consider honey to be classified as a liquid. Maybe the clerk was only familiar with honey spread!
Anyhow, I'm glad it's on it's way. Now I can get back to the really important stuff like checking out the bee supply catalogs to see if there is anything else I need to order for myself for Christmas!
Thanks again everyone for your help.

My father brings honey with him all the time when he goes to New Brunswick to visit family.

You may want to check in the country of origin. I recently shipped some honey to Italy. OMG, it went through fine, but they had to pay taxes on it. If you really want to talk about shipping costs....The box I sent cost over $50, and the taxes were almost $75. All we had in the box were 4 jars of honey, some music CD's and a portable DVD player. I'll never do that again.
