Looking for other bees for experimenting with in my climate but can't find anything.
Anyone local have an idea?

Kona sells carniolans, so do the Huxters (Kettle Valley Queens). Look in the BeeScene for suppliers.

Can you import? Several beeks on this site stated that Washinton state has some mite resistant bee breeders.

Opps, forgot to add that they are Carnies hybrids.
Check with Qwelth. They had quite a buckfast program in years past. Suppoosed to be pretty top notch stock. Aspera, if you talk to Dennis Van Englesdorp he may be able to give you some info on these to pass along.

Aspera,
Of which breeders do you speak? I live in Washington State and am new to beekeeping so if you remember who sells resistant stock please let me know. Thanks.

I have not tried them, but the Olympic wilderness bees are suppose to be tough. I think that they draw heavily from SMR, russian, and "surviver" Caucasian stock, and breed this stock in an isolated region. My preference is to try to get pure lines from USDA breeders. If the Olympic bees are half of what their website claims its worth a shot. I'm a bit leary of incorperating any Caucasian genes into my tiny apiary as I already have huge problems with bees propolizing everything.

Thanks for the tip Joel. The Buckfast is a fun bee to manage around here (stings notwithstanding).

Thanks Jean-Marc- I'll check both out.
We can't import bees into Canada from the states.

Queens can be imported into Canada from the States for the past 2 seasons. canada has imposed a lot of protocol, so many producers are not that interested. You'll need a permit. It's not worth the effort and cost for a few queens, not eve 100. Break even is around 200, as opposed to bying them from the co-op.
