Does anyone know how to get a location to produce orange blossom honey?

plunk the little white boxes down right in the middle of an orange grove. That's the ticket, but I doubt you will find any in north florida. Unless perhaps you classify Dade City as north florida. you have about a six month wait before the next bloom.

kiddin aside... Are you asking how to get a location or how to get a location to produce?

I am asking how to get a place in a grove to produce some honey. I'm sure i wont find any in north florida and will have to go south, i just can't plop some in a grove without permisson and was wondering how to go about getting in.

I've been having second thoughts about doing
any almond pollination this year.

How hard is it to get into an orange grove
in South Texas? Are rental units for the
wife and I expensive and hard to come by?

I would love to pull some orange blossum
honey and perhaps some other pollination
work if there is any available.

Nice thought. Lots of your neighbors will be down there in the valley too.

They are not hard to get. Just ask the owner or grove foreman for permission. Just make sure you are aware of the canker regulations.

Sundance.
Canker is a bacteria that causes alot of damage in orange groves , to say the least. You are supposed to decontaminate youre truck and equipment when entering and leaving a orange grove. You are supposed to sighn a compliance paper from the state of Florida. You just want to make sure the grove owner knows that you are aware of this and you will not contaminate his grove.

I'm looking at going to Texas. Wonder if
they have the same issue?

I don't know anything about Florida, but here in California most of the growers have switched to seedless oranges and don't want bees anywhere around them because the seed count goes up if they are pollinated. There is currently a lawsuit in this state against one big grower who has used his influence to keep all beekeepers at least two miles away from his groves, and I believe there is an attempt to influence (read buy) state legislators to pass legislation prohibiting beekeeping within two miles of an orange grove.

Ahhhhhh South Padre Island, I did maintainance
at Surfside Condo in 78-79 on Padre. What a pure
blast. Loved it but the wife wanted to head back
north. Miss the fresh fried Redfish (one of my
favorites). Slapped down a load of Pearl Beer
back then...... and long necks. And those all
you can eat shrimp joints on the river, peel
and eat with the heads on and everything.

I must agree with you Sundance, just moved from Texas a few years ago and our best vacations were always to Padre Island. We would always go to Corpus Christi and buy fresh shrimp by the pound from the commercial fishing boats then boil with vegetables and Zatarins seasoning or butterfly the jumbos and fry in butter and garlic. ohghghghgh as Homer Simpson would say.
By the way, I would love to put some bees in some oranges in California next year but like they say...snowball's chance in...

George..... man that brings back memories!
If we were short on cash we'd but live
bait shrimp from seiners. Cheap and most
excellent!
