I have a dozen queens headed my way and will be introducing them into as many hives this week. Besides finding and removing the old queens is there anything special I should do to help get them off to a good start in their new homes??

Just replace queen with new one take out 1 frame and hang queen between frames make sure she wont fall and bees can get to her to feed her and close back up. Are you not going to split them or just dont want to. You shouldnt have to do anything to them cause were in a good flow now.

if I was making up weak to moderate stength nucs with lots of foundation even in a good flow I would feed. predicting when a good flow will suddenly stop is kind of like being the weather man, which is to say most times you are going to be wrong.

He was talking like he is just requeening. Not enough info to say much but thought he was talking about just requeening them.

Why would you remove a frame? I have always been able to just separate the ten frames and slip her cage in between. Doing it that way, I have never had burr comb built between frames.

tecumseh sezs:
I think??? big stinger was suggesting to park the queen introduction cage between the top bars.
big stinger adds:

tecumseh elaborates:
I thought so also big stinger, but I though I might add a bit more detail (and the devil is definitely in there, somewhere) if in fact they were doing otherwise.

Yes your right tecumseh i remove 1 frame and put queen suspendid from top bars so she cant fall and bees can feed her. Also have never had burr comb built in the space. And also turn queen cage tward front of hive. Thats just the way i was showed but everybody has a differant way. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Anyone else just lay the cage screen up on the top bars? I've never had any lost that way, but my experience is limited to about 10 requeens. All 10 accepted fine. It is easy to see if she was released and also no burr comb.

I also place the cage between the top bars. There is room if you just slide the frames apart. I have never had to remove one. I place it at 45 degrees, with the screen down. Candy end down. I do not poke a nail through the candy.
