bee clusters

We've had several days of rain. Early this morning I noticed that the bees were clustered around the outside of the hive. Later this afternoon they seem fine. What do the clusters mean, and should we be concerned? Thanks

Papa, what it meant for my hives were that two of them were very warm and hung outside probably to keep the heat down inside the hive. The other was due to heat and population, so I added another hive body to give them more room because I didn't want to do a split this late in the year.

So I'm saying, it depends. They'd probably enjoy more space if you can provide it.
