well, i'm making my own pollen traps and i'm half way done, I can't wait to get them out in use.
does anyone here trap pollen? if so how much do you get and how long did you leave it on your hive to get that much? where are the bees getting the pollen from (what plant)?

excited to be able to be self suffeceint in my pollen supply.

We average 2-3 lbs/hive/week during August and September. Our hives usually go into pollen season with too much pollen from the spring and we've found some still get through. It is a good idea to check a hive every other week for pollen stores. There is a wide variety of pollen coming including Sow and Canada Thistle, Teasle, Golden Rod, Brown Eyed Susan and many other lesser contributors.

Good luck with your pollen traps!

all i have to do now is make the trays to fit in and i'll bee putting my traps to use. for the first time at making pollen traps i have to say that they turned out awsome, can't wait to get them out in use.

i used scrap wood which was in pretty good condition and with the cost of everything else i figured it out and each trap cost me $4.75 to make and after pricing them from bee supply stores am i ever glad i built my own. can't wait to tell you guys how they work, the maple pollen is the most nutritional pollen here in the fraser valley and i'm hoping trap quit a bit of it to feed to them early next spring.
