I had to let some of my Virgin Queens mate with the local boys, here in Mass. Which seemed to yield a hodgepoge of different bee colorations. I have allblack, my NWCarni tigerlike bands, and Gray Tiger. Really, a funky looking bunch of girls. There is one other and I swear they are the minority and it seems like they do all the work. They are a little bit smaller and have a black tipped abdomen on end and a single slight stripe right in the middle of an otherwise off orange abdomen. I figured there had to have been different bee races mating with the virgin, and variation from the Cali stock. Any Ideas on black tipped bee.

Of course there is no telling what drones she mated with.

She probably mated with 'wild' drones that also have a big mix in their genes. This actually makes for a better bee (for lack of words). This brings out hybrid vigor in your stock and it also produces a bee that is more to the setting of your area in terms of weather and plants. Enjoy watching all the different ladies working. http://www.beesource.com/ubb/smile.gif
