In northern Alabama, is has been either cold or rainy for the past couple of weeks. We did have an unusually warm spell in late jan. But winter has returned.
Any idea what is flowering out there in your area?

There is over two feet of snow on the ground with six foot drifts. I don't expect to put on any supers for three months probably.

I don't know that I will be putting on too many supers anyways.
The red maples are putting out pollen here and my girls are bringing it in like crazy. I'll probably be putting supers on in March.

Since I use top bar hives, I don't use supers, but I can tell you that except on cold days, there is something for the bees to do all year round both in nectar and pollen collection.

The red maples are blooming is the only thing I know for sure. The bees are bringing in 2 different colored pollens so I assume something else is blooming also but I haven't figured out what it is yet.

Thanks for the tip on the Red maples. I just started working 3rd shift so it is cold when I come home and dark when I wake up in the evening. I am off tomorrow, so I will check the trees in the front yard.

Well, for our area, at least last year, the major flow was all but over by the time the tulip popular started blooming. Last year the popular came into bloom around May 20th and lasted only about a week as a result of lots of rain and high winds. Hopefully this year the weather will be more cooperative.
