I am a homeschool mom who needs childrens books, magazines, handouts... to teach them the amazing facts of bees. I was a bee owner 13 years ago and my dad was. I need youth info. My library is VERY limited in its info.

Hi, I have a couple of quick suggestions for you. First, Dadants' "First Lessons in Beekeeping" is a simple book which you could read with and explain to your children. It is available from several beekeeping supply places for approximately $7.00. Second, I would suggest that you check out the Brushy Mountain Beekeeping supplies website. Their catalog lists several adult books as well as a few childrens' books. Check 'em out and see what will fit you needs.
Good Luck,
Paul

One book I've always had my eye on is, "Beekeepers" by Linda Oatman High, Doug Chayka. It's listed at: http://www.beesource.com/books/general.htm
I haven't read it yet but it's on my list of books to get. Has anyone else read this book? Having homeschooled our kids for 12 years, reading has always been near the top on our list. On book I have read and the kids find interesting for the first half is, "The Art & Adventure of Beekeeping" by Ormond and Harry Aebi. A wonderfully written book about a father and son beekeeping operation and how they broke the world's record for wild flower honey from a single hive.

Barry

My favorite of all time is: Bees Are My Business," by Harry Whitcomb. This is the life story of a beekeeper who was actively involved in the beginnings of pollination service, and also suffered greatly under the misuse of pesticides, both still major areas of serious beekeeping.
I had lost my copy of the book (probably loaned it out) and it's out of print, but a used book search on the internet found me a nice copy for $6 plus shipping.
