The last few weeks have set me back on
some final hive work I need to do.

Right now it is 27 F and it has been consistanly
15 to 20 degrees below average. Maddening to
say the least. Normal for today is 51F and we'll
be lucky to see above freezing.

Please forward some a nice warm couple of days.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune temperature wise Bruce. ;)
Up here in the Far North the temperatures have been above average  ,but still cool enough that the bees are generally staying in their hives.

Yeah, Sundance. I know what you mean.
It's all the way down to 55 here and drizzing rain. Not enough to clean the windshield, but enough to mess it up. Not supposed to get above 60 today.
Just miserable.

Weather is relative, isn't it??? ;) ;)

Indeed it is Iddee........ I can usually
work them with some level of comfort in
the mid 40's if I refrain from any major
disturbance.

It was in the forties here and I was trying to find queens in nucs. One had brood in it! I was shocked. It also had a lot of stores. I was impressed. Three I couldn't find a queen in even though I'm pretty sure there is one by the way they are acting and one I think, but can't confirm when they are clustered so tightly, that it's queenless.

Working bees in the forties is not always very efficient. smile.gif

yeah, 39 was about the best my thermometer showed here today.

I've still got two light hives that I was hoping would take feed before the real cold set in. Usually this time of year there is still time to add some weight, but with current temps, they're not taking much syrup.

It's supposed to warm up a little later this week.

I might as well chime in on this subject too since we have had well below average temps here in WI. too for most of October. Also I am concerned about the temperature sensitive mite treatments.

I know what you guys mean, it was about 90 here today . There is about a week, hopefully two ,left on brazilian pepper and the bees look great. You should really consider bringing bees down south for the winter.

I woke up to four inches of snow Saturday morning, predictions are highs in the forties for the rest of the week with nightime lows below freezing :( (
