Does any one think that "K-Wing" is really a reliable test to determine if a hive is suffering from tracheal mites? What are some specific signs of K-Wing? Is dissection the ONLY way to determine tracheal mites?

K-wing is not a reliable test for tracheal mites. We take a sample of 30 bees from four or five colonies in the yard and disect them.
It's very time consuming but a much more reliable test.

K-wing is a sign of T-mites, but can be other problems. Another sign of T-mites that can be confused with other problems is bee "poop" (dysentery) on the landing board and front of hive. T-mites and Nosema have very common symptoms, and are often miss treated. Dissection is the only SURE way to determine T-mites.
