Bought sugar in 50 pound sacks from a restaurant supplier for 13.33333 cents per pound. A bunch of us went in together and bought 1500 pounds. We piggybacked a restaurant friends order and got a discount for the amount of sugar ordered. If you have a tax ID # you can have them deliver to your house. Two to one sugar syrup is 10 pounds of sugar to 2 1/2 quarts water. Sugar is 32 cents a pound at the grocery store. Wrap it in plastic in a dry place and it will last almost forever.
I have a friend that bought 2 barrels of sugar for $60.00 ea. I think he said it weighed 600 lbs. $0.10 per #

Speaking of sugar...
when I have fed, I have always been sure to use pure cane sugar as that was the advice I received when I first got started. I was told that bees are stressed by beet sugar or don't thrive on it, for some reason. Is there truly a preference for cane sugar over beet? If so, why? Isn't purified sucrose essentially the same regardless of the source?

I have used beet and cane sugar interchangeably, and not really noticed a difference, but then have never looked for one. Hmmmmmmm

Used to be, if you bought large quantities of sugar in the South, the Revenue Man would be following you when you left the store.

It's true. Only two kinds of people buy that much sugar. Beekeepers and moonshiners.
