any thoughts? US postal service? what box to use?

I tried this before... not worth it. You can use a nuc box made from cardboard that is offered by some of the beekeeping supply places. You also need to be aware of if you can ship drawn out frames into other states. Somes states it is illegal.

I agree with Amy....ask fatbeeman.

I got a nuc from him earlier this month, shipped via post office. It worked great, no damage to the box and lots of live bees! He ships the queen in a cage pushed into the foundation to keep her safe...and the box is a very tight fit so no banging/swinging frames. He uses strips of wood on the bottom of each end to stablize the box so it won't tip over.
