My (only) hive is mediums and was started May 12th. They have two mediums nearly full of brood, but when I gave them the second medium they moved right up and didn't finish the first one. Is that normal? They don't seem to be touching the outside frames on the second chamber either. Do they fill those when there's nothing left? Should I wait for them to fill them to put anything else on? Am I completely wasting my ennergy worrying about this? Thanks everybody!

You can take the outside frames and move them inwards and take the inside frames and move them out. This way the bees will draw up the frames. I would use frams that have some honey in them and move those to the outside, then brood then the ones that need to be drawn up.

I would take honey frames from the outside of box two and put on the outside of the lower box and put the undrawn from the lower next to the brood in the one above.
As warm as it is now it is probably ok to split the brood with an empty frame but I have problems when I do that. I opt to put the frame next to the brood and honey outside of that.

Yes, it's normal.

What Michael said http://www.beesource.com/ubb/smile.gif If you move them towards the inside, I'd find a couple of frames with little brood. It's bad practice to split the brood up. They can chill in Ohio given some very cool nights.
