I have reached my limit on hive numbers, 7 hives in 2 yards. I understand about opening up the brood nest, but these practices all seem to rely on putting in empty frames and getting new frames drawn. As most of my frames are only 2 years old and in good order can I just open the brood nest with empty drawn frames. Any other articles on beesource about keeping your bees on your existing equipment.

empty drawn frames serve the same purpose, it's just that the undrawn foundation gives the house bees something to do for a longer period of time. The drawn frames give the queen a place
to lay eggs sooner.

If you keep putting empty frames in you'll soon have a lot of nice wax combs that are easy enough to cut out, crush and strain and put the empty frame back in. But then you can do that with any brood comb full of honey anyway. You just can't eat the honey if you use chemicals.
