Don't know about the "wear dark clothes" part, but otherwise it seems valid.

My work clothes consist of dark blue trousers and a dark blue t-shirt. I often sit out back near my hives (with in 3') and watch my girls work while still in my work clothes. They sometimes land on me for a while, the only time I've ever been stung is when a mosquito buzzed my ear and I swatted it and almost got a bee at the same time. Mosquito got smashed flat and the bee stung me. I got up and walked away from the hive and did not return until the next day and all was well again.
