Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a good reference book on beekeeping for those times when I just want to read and not type on the computer. The library's getting tired of my constantly renewing the books by Richard Bonney and John Vivian. Any favorites?
Thanks.

If you haven't already done so, you could subscribe to American Bee Journal and/or Gleanings in Bee Culture.

I have about a dozen general beekeeping books and I find that once you have read two of them each new book will only have a few pages with information and ideas you haven't already covered. The Journals come every month with the latest ideas.

A really good reference book on beekeeping is Eva Crane's 'Bees and Beekeeping Science, Practice and World Resources'. It's one of those larger size books measuring around 11 x 8 inches and 1 1/2 inches thick. It was published about a decade or so ago and I think only one printing was done, so it's unfortunately already out of print. Fortunately though there are copies availible from used book sellers. On the unfortunate side, again, it's a bit spendy and will likely run $100. Your library should be able to get a copy for you on an inter-library loan. That way you can look at it and see if it's worth it to you to spend your hard earned money on.

I think the best is Taylor's How-to-do-it book. It is out of print but readily available on www.abebooks.com. (http://www.abebooks.com.)

Next best it Sammataro's book; forget the name, but she only has one. Most dealers carry it.

ABC & XYZ of Beeculture is hard to beat too.
