After reading a few post I plan to make a split on a strong hive tomorrow.I want the new split to raise a new queen.
-I,ve been to told to give the split 4 frames of good brood and two additional frames with eggs present.(leave 4 frames and queen in original)
-feed until our fall secondary flow begins
-place the new split in the place of the original hive were the foragers can return to it.
I only have two colonies. How far away do I need to seperate my original colony and the split.

Any other advice will be welcomed-this will be my first split.

If you want to just end up with two hives and no honey, do an even split. Put half the open brood, half the brood, half the pollen, and half the honey in one and the same with the other. The brood goes in the center, with pollen on the outsides of that and honey on the outsides and above that. I'd face them both toward the old location so the returning bees have an even choice between the two. If one is going to raise their own queen, shake extra bees into that one
