Has anyone had the experience of having to add a second deep after just two weeks?
My Beekeeping for dummies says to add the second deeep when 7 of the 10 frames in the first deep have drawn comb. Does that mean fully drawn comb on each of the 7 frames or can there just be some comb on 7 frames?
I just instaled my package two weeks ago and checked for the queen last week. Now I have at least some comb on almost all of my 10 frames. I also have capped brood and honey on the inner-most 5-6 frames but I don't want to add the second deep too soon. Any advice is welcome. Ed.

I have the same book as you, and I believe he means when 7 of the 10 are completely full.

Yes,wait until 7 or 8 frames are completely drawn out. If you add another super too early the bees will move up into the added super and stop drawing out the frames in the bottom super. Bees have a natural tendency to move up.

I figure when 7 of ten are drawn and covered with bees. If it's mostly empty of bees, I wouldn't count it.

Once they are established and a flow is one, they number of bees could double in as little as three weeks.
