The link takes you to streaming video showing the invasion of hornets into a bee colony and the ensuing destruction.

Not a pretty sight. The music adds to the trauma.

Where did that movie come from, and who made it?

Thanks,

I'm not exactly sure, but I did an internet search for the web domain and found lots of links to the movie file. Some people commented that they'd seen this on PBS or TLC. I even read one remark that it looked like CG (2d or 3d computer graphics.) I feel very confident that it is real and not simulated with a computer model. Of course, that is my priveledge to judge, having also photographed (though not filmed) bees at the hive entrance.

I saw it as originally aired on the Discovery Channel. Hornets are indigenous to Japan, I believe. The population of the hornets nest (hive, I guess) was relatively small compared to what we are used to here with honey bees. They were wearing full protection suits with plexiglas fronts, no screen. The hum from the hornets was amazing. One of the researchers had been stung in the past and likened it to being shot. They (the hornets) tore the beehive apart to get the larva as food for the young hornets. Pretty intense stuff.

This same movie is the topic of a thread from last year. That is a creepy one for sure. I think this was filmed in Japan and these are Japanese Killer Hornets.
