My 2 Italian Hives are really ramping up brood production here lately. I don't know if they are smarter than I am and they know a good flow is coming on or if they are just italians being italians. I don't think it's the later, because they had slowed brood production way down for a while. They were robbing out my 2 Russian hives so I did a little equalizing by stealing some of that nice new capped brood.

I have noticed the same thing in a lot of my hives last week. Hope they make the most out of it. Ironweed and goldenrod are looking very promising around here.

rwjedi, My bees had also slowed way down lately, but yesterday I noticed much more activity. They were definately on a mission and way too occupied to bother with me. I noticed plenty of pollen being brought in, too. I walked down the hill from my hives to where I have a small patch of Goldenrod, and sure enough, it was just starting to bloom. Although no bees were working these few plants yet, they obviously found something that is giving up a little nectar. I would bet if I inspected my hives now, I would find the queens are now laying more.

Wow - I noticed the same thing - so much that I worried that I would have to feed all my hives since their is a dearth of nectar, but they are bringing in pollen by the legload! im in SC.
