I put a second super on last Friday of undrawn foundation, I decide to take a quick peek today. It's all drawn, but little necter.

Then I decided to check the first super, not much capped.

Then I decide to check the drone frame in the brood box, not much drawn so I took it out and replaced it with the one that I removed and froze.

I checked a frame of foundation that I had put in to replace a frame of honey I removed because it fell apart in spots. I now figure they had bridge comb attaching it to the box as this one pulled apart a bit.

I checked a couple of other frames and found about 7 frames of capped honey!

I'm thinking of taking a few frames out and putting in some foundation.

Sound right?

What am I missing?

I think that I need to provide brood space. I guess that this is called Honey bound!

As I write this I'm thinking it is very important to get them out and put new foundation in. How is my thought process?

I was afraid of putting a super on too early, I suppose that would have helped. This is my first and only colony. I got his Nuc on May 23. I guess it's doing allright.

Your plan is fine. You can take a few frames if they are fully capped. It is not an emergency. You can take honey from capped frames, or add a third "and maybe fourth and fifth" super. Either way will result in open space for them to work, and that is your main goal.

It "seems" like they have enough space to work. And thanks for telling me it isn't an emergency, that really helps!

I was simply shocked to see all that honey in the hive body.

I am so friggin ignorant despite all my book learnin! A couple weeks back I was fearful that my hive was weak and I was in danger of robber bees!

Thanks,
Matt
