Barry: found one on the Essex bee keepers site. Its by J. T. Brown. "shredded green almond husks (walnuts will also work) fill jar to about 1/2inch from top, then add alcohol (vodka works) let set for 30 days then paint to soaking a "fume Pad" change every 30 days" He also says use a dummy board behind the frames with the pad facing the brood chaamber. ( Wondering about drinking the vodka first or after the 30 days. ) He claims it works. I went to beedata.com - brought up the Essex site and then typed in Brown's name to return to the site. Then printed the page. Suppose it will work? Claims it is being used in about two dozen areas and working.

Superbee: no indication in the posting whether the mixture drove the mites out or killed them. Brown wrote he had been treating his hives over four years and they were "virtually" mite free. The key word here is "virtually", but he does say that he checks drone brood each time he is in a hive and the drone larva were without blemish.
