I have my hive on a stand that I made. Its really too high. What I want to do is move it down on top of some conder blocks. Can I just move it down this spring without any problem? Its about a 2 foot differnece in height. Should I do it at night?

Thanks.

Moving a hive only 2 feet will not have an effect on the bees.It also does not matter if it's day or nite.just what's easier on you.>>>>Mark

I find bees to be much more dangeous at night--they don't fly; they crawl and are more prone to sting. I'd do it late morning/early afternoon while the bees are flying--they're in a much better mood at that time of day.

They wont even notice the difference.

Greetings ZEEBEE,

To place your hive on a different (lower) stand this time of year, would require:

1) Lifting the entire hive full of stores, (maybe 150 lbs or more), possible w/ 2 people.
OR
2) Dismantle into manageable parts, (high risk of distrubing cluter or worse).
OR
3) Wait til spring, as you reverse hive bodies, just place them on new stand.

My thoughts, hope they help.

Do it on a nice warm spring day. Do it a box at a time. Just move them all to the side and stack them up where you want them, or if you don't mind them a little to the right or left etc. you can just reverse and move at the same time, as mentioned above. Whatever you do, don't do it at night. The bees will act confused for about 30 minutes, maybe a few slow ones will be confused for a couple of hours, but they will hardly notice.
