My bees are hammering the bushy asters and New England asters like mad. Some of my books say Aster honey is not good for overwintering, it crystalizes quickly, etc.
So what are you supposed to do with it?
Not sure why they aren't on the goldenrod, maybe it has been too dry here for the goldenrod to get much nectar. Any ideas?
thanks!

I've heard that same thing too.Im not really sure how much truth there is to that. You could feed the bees sugar syrup so they'd store something besides the Aster & goldenrod honey.

Don't know where you 2 heard that,But around here at least the Aster is an important honey plant for the bees.not to mean to sound like a smart a##,But I think the bees know what they need.>>>>Mark

Aster is a good topping to your winter stores. The reason it was stated that way is in the olden days if it did not suit the beekeepers taste then it was not good for his bees. Some use to say that with buckwheat honey too since it is black and will crystalize too. I look forward to aster and golden rod. Saved many a bee hive.
