A couple days ago I saw hornets still trying to get in the hives. One day the bees weren't flying but the hornets were so I sat there with a flyswatter and killed 27 . I must have gotten most of them, the next day I only saw a couple. Anyone else still have hornet, yellow jacket trouble. Both hives still seem strong. I figure they were sneaking around them balled up and stealing honey. The few hornets left weren't getting past the guards when the bees were out.

Yep. Still got yellowjackets. I have only one hive remaining, but it's a strong hive and they're fending the little buggers off quite well. Nonetheless I have lures set up around the property. We're supposed to have some cold weather come through this week. I'm hoping that'll do in the yellow jackets once and for all.

I hate to make you jealous, I actually haven't seen one in months. But I live in the cold frozen North (the people in Laramie WY, Northern Minnesota, and Canada are laughing at me)

(can't spell)

Yes, Michael, you're making me jealous! Ordinarily, I get grouchy when it gets below 70, but I'm actually praying for some good, hard cold to get rid of the YJs. Maybe tonight, but in the meantime, I was out in my meadow today and found dandelions and jonquils blooming!

Hi
I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but are you dealing with:
Hornets, groundbees, yellowjackets, native ?? paperwasps, or European paperwasps?

I'm all froze up here, but earlier I see mainly the european paperwasps. Lots but not hivekilling qty. They are about the same size as the native paperwasps, bigger than a yellowjacket but smaller than a hornet. And yellow and black like a yj. They make many many nests, up to the size of your hand. There were some baldface hornets and yellowjackets, but none as common as the stupid eauropean paperwasp. But they all act the same and as are as mean as...well you can fill in the blank here.
