Anybody have any thoughts about the use of the new Pierco Drone Comb? Thanks.

If you use drone comb for mite control, sounds good. I note that it comes 52 frames per box. That is a lot of drone frames. I use ApiGuard and SBB for mite control and seem to have pretty good luck. I also use all Pierco frames and have had very good luck with it. So, if I were going to use drone comb, I'd use Pierco.

I see that individual frames of drone comb can be bought at Brushy Mountain.

i've got a trick for you,put a medium super with shallow frames above your 2nd deep, the bees will build out burr comb there and the queen will lay drones in it.you can then easily scrape it off during a hive inspection and remove the mite infested drone burr-comb.i came on this by accident and noticed it works well.

I use them in my IPM program. I know others who use them in their queen rearing operation. Several queen breeders use them to test the hygienic behavior of the queens they rear. You can cut a section of the capped drone cells out of the frame, freeze it and then replace it in the colony. Then you can determine how quickly, or slowly, the bees remove the dead larvae. This gives a good indication of their hygienic behavior.
