I would like to know how to change from a bottom entrance to a top entrance. Is it on the very top or can it be in the middle above the brood nest? Which works best for the bees? I have looked at Mr. Bush website and it is hard to tell from the pics, but they look like they are on the top. Is it an easy transition for the girls to make?

I think Mr. Bush's is the best way to switch. Can I ask why? Improved ventilation? Shunk avoidance? Cool Pics? He uses migratory hives and just sticks a shim to hold it up.

changing position of the entrance will cause the girls a bit of temporary confusion, but they are quick to adjust. sometime I flip entrances from front to back (and back again) by using a double screen with a notched entrance and a second bottom board. this allows me to shuttle the flow of field bees into various segments of the hive.

I just nail a board in the bottom entrance to block it and prop the lid up with shims. Either the inner cover and slide the top forward, or the migratory cover. The bees adjust in a few hours.
