This summer and fall I went from 3 hives to 2 hives to 1 hive. I plan to do a split next Spring and build up from there. I would like to use New World Carnolians but they are hard to find locally. Does it make sense for me to order now for next Spring delivery? Also, what about shipping from California to West Virginia. Do you see any problems with that?

This is the time of year to find a supplier for the kind of honeybees you want in packages contact them and find out when they will except orders, if it’s now place your order. Package bees are not an unlimited commodity. If you wait to long they may be sold out, if you find yourself in that position ask them to put you on a waiting list for cancellations sometimes you can get a few packages in late spring this way.
I haven’t found any California suppliers that will ship packages to Michigan you can however get queens form California, which I have done on a couple of occasions
