How many hives are generally kept in one yard? I imagine this will vary greatly. I would like to know when does a area get saturated and honey production starts to drop?
My other question is how are the landowners compensated? I'm sure this varies as well.
Right now my hives are at a friends farm and I'm looking forward to suppling him with honey. Thanks for the replies in advance.

Most folks around here don't charge for having permanent bee yards on their land, as the pollination is a benefit. Some honey or occasional chores are good relations, as is keeping your beeyards neat and not abusing the roads, fields and fences of your host.

Compensating a LANDOWNER with a case of one pound bears, etc, is appropriate.

Not charging a fee for pollination services for a commercial operation that relies on pollination is bad for the industry and beekeepers in general.
