I did it!!! I guess this proves the old adage it's better to be lucky than good. I FINALLY found the queen in the log hive. SHE's GORGEOUS. I have never seen a more beautiful queen in my life. Dark orangey brown with black stripes. HUGE. So I lifted the hive body off of the log, put the queen excluder between the log and the hive (checked one more time to make sure I had the queen LOL) and in 20 days or so I'll remove the log completly. So I would say that I am 3/4 the way done with getting the hive out of the log and haven't disrupted them at all really. So for those with patience this is perhaps another way of doing it. I'll have to get some pictures of her and the whole set up on here soon.
