When working in the Garden, about 30 yards north of the 2 hives, with a bush between, not even the flight path of bees, she got nailed on the arm.....not sure if it was a bee, just herd a laud scream and it was over! :D
Are Women in general more prone to get stung??
As I remember in Switzerland, growing up beside a Bee House, my Mother got stung about 5 to 1 from my Dad!
Any Ideas why??
Bad Pheromone?
Mosquito spray?

We have just the opposite. My wife almost never gets insect stings, bites, etc. I think she's just naturally offensive. :)
Me on the other hand.... I'm a tick magnet. (And lots of other bloodsuckers... which is why I try to avoid areas where lawyers swarm.)
But so far with the bees, the score is one and one. She took hers in the forehead just above the hairline, and I took mine in the right ear.

Are you sure it was a honeybee? I would suspect a yellow jacket nest in the area she was working in.

Ask her if she had to remove the stinger. If so then it was one of yours. If not then a wasp is probably to blame.

Was there a stinger left in her arm?

My wife also gets stung more than I. I think they don't like getting caught in her hair. My wife is also more accident prone, and I think the bees just don't like her. I would say our ratio is about 5:1 also.

Once in a while a bee goes after me away from the hive. But no one else ever gets stung. I always figured I was marked from working the hives.

I do think there's a difference in how different people attract insects. I don't think it's sex-based, other than the fact that women are more likely to wear scents. I joke with my wife that I want her to come outside with me since the mosquitoes will always bite here instead of me if she's close by. Why should they go for the ground beef when the T-bone is close by?

Was she wearing bug spray with DEET? I've found that bees are more aggressive towards people wearing DEET. Just an observation no conclusive proof.

Interesting, my partner just got nailed yesterday and he wasn't anywhere near the hive. We had just taken a hive body full of honey off though so I just assumed they were angry about that

Thank you all!
She had no stinger in her arm.....hmm, I didn't know, no stinger no honey bee!
But haven't seen any yellow jacket around there?
And yes, she had bug spray with deet.
When working the bees, is it better not to wear bug spray?

I would say that is a BIG YES to the question about not wearing bug spray. I wore bug spray to work my hives ONCE. and only ONCE. They were vicious right from the pop of the lid. Same Hive I could work any other time, with just a veil and really no smoke.

Konrad, think about the purpose of Deet/Off. It's to make the bugs want to be away from the smell. They made a smell that insects hate. Then we come smelling like that and tower over they're home and start dismantling it. RW if I'm not mistaken isn't there more to your tale? Didn't you do this without a veil or somethin? What a brave man.

<<the purpose of Deet/Off. It's to make the bugs want to be away from the smell.>>
I've heard it actually messes with mosquitoes' ability to detect you, rather than repelling them outright.

Avon skin so soft really lites their fire as well . This is the stuff alot of folks swear by for repeling gnats and skeeters .

Padawan Rod,
Sorry. But you must realize by now that I'll never let you live that one down. Funniest tale I've heard in years. Re-read Drifter's Sig above.
