It's been in the 70's here lately and my 4 hives have all been flying a lot. What are they working this time of year in E. TN ? Is there anything out there for them or are they just looking for something because of the warm weather? Will this cause them to use more stores from all of their activity with no productivity?

All I can answer is the last question. Yes they will use more stores do to the activity this will vary due to population, race, strain, wether or not broodrearing, ect.

They are probably just looking, but it's possible they found something to work. You never know. Homer Simpson might have a pile of sugar in his back yard. http://www.beesource.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've had lots of bees flying here in N. Arkansas also. Yesterday I noticed that they were working both white clover and dandelions in peoples yards. I'm sure they weren't getting loads of nectar... but I know about 1 in 10 come in with pollen, so the rest probably have SOME nectar. It's supposed to freeze tonight so that ends that. Overall though, I'm sure they slightly gained in weight.

I am in McMinnville, TN. My bees were bringing in pollen yesterday. Dandalion(sp) are blooming in low numbers. The bees were getting a natural suger from the wild pears that have fall. So they are working these sources on our farm. There are a few other things still blooming but this hard freeze we are supose to get tonight and the next should finish them off.
