Brought home a new nuc from a regional beekeeper 8 days ago. Noticed lots of chalk brood (I think) yesterday. Just wanted to check on here it the "Beekeeping for Dummies" boook is right that this is prob a fungal infection and will likely be cleared by the hive soon.

Yes it will clear up. I would also requeen this line of bees this fall (requeen) and also cull the combs for new ones during yearly comb replacemnt, especially not knowing the combs history (maybe you do?).

Try to make sure there is enough ventilation and put the hive in full sun to help with the humidity problems. If you do that it will usually go away. If you have a SBB leave it at least partly open if not all the way open.
