How do you do this? Simply pick the upper chamber up and set it aside...........bees, foundation, and all? The bees stay on the foundation?

That's exactly right. I turn up the outter cover and set the top box(es) on it. That way the queen can't fall out if shes up there. I might use a second cover if the bees are "hot" to keep them out of my way.

PS I only give the bees one box of foundation at a time. I never put 2 boxes of foundation on one hive. It is too much space for them to take care of and I've had them chew holes in the ones they weren't using.

Why is there foundation in the lower brood chamber? I would have let them draw the entire lower chamber before adding the upper. Then there is nothing to check in the lower.
