I am sold on the small cell. Talked to Dadant and I will try to pick up foundation at the show in Lansing in May. Now, they say, is too cold to ship. My dilemma is the quantity. I can buy 50 or 25 lb. I will probably run out of the 50 package this year, or itÂ’ll be close. Can you store the foundation, for how long and in what kind of environment? If itÂ’s not a pain, I may as well get the 25 lb, probably 220-240 pcs, enough for a few years.
Thank you for the advice.

yes you can store it. I store mine in the house so that it doesn't get to hot in the summer and no mice or insects can get to it. I think you could almost store it indefinitely.

Yes--I keep my wax in the basement rafters in boxes. It is dry and heated in winter, the wax will slightly darken as it ages but does not hurt it. I have some wax that must be twenty years old that is still fine. Dry-dark-no insects or mice, it keeps.

I've kept foundation laying flat on a shelf in the basement or the living room for 25 years with no problems. Just don't let it get really hot.

Michael is there any problem with waxmoth if you store wax in the house ? Also is it ok to store wax in the freezer, providing you dont break it ?

After making the mistake once of storing a bunch of wet supers in the basement, I STILL have wax moths in the basement. I also have my foundation stored there. Once in a while a wax moth chews on the edges a bit. But they relly need some pollen or some cocoons or some honey in order to survive. I've never seen any significant damage to the foundation even WITH a lot of wax moths living in my basement.
I wouldn't store it in the freezer. It's VERY brittle when it's frozen.
