I've noticed the drones in my hive have been very active in recent days...is this normal for this time of year..? When do they usaully get evicted from the hive..? i understand that they get evicted by the rest of the hive because they eat to much honey stores for the winter...

I figure that drones are sort of like politicians around election time-the time has come for show and tell!

There is sometimes a socondary swarm season during the fall flow. Its something like 80% of swarms in the spring flow and 20% during the fall. This of course has alot to do with nectar sources and the flow potential in any particular area.
Many don't see the fall swarms happening as they are not looking for it. And then dead hives appear in late fall or winter due to unsuccessful queen mating, etc.
I would be looking for some queen cells also since this activity by the drone could signal a swarm potential or supercedure event.
