| Here is a
hive made using the concept of two deep brood boxes side by side
instead of one on top of another. The bottom brood chamber holds
20 Dadant type frames. In the fall, I remove the #5 and #16 frame
and install a solid follower board in their place. I then place
a second deep hive body on top for the bees to put up stores
for winter as you would with a conventional hive. This keeps
the bees from clustering into an end without the ability to move
up which result in dead bees from starvation. This hive has always
been one of my best honey producing hives. |
