I covered the outer covers with aluminum sheeting leaving a 3/8" lip on the side that butts up against the super. On one super, I attached pieces of counter flashing to go over this lip so there would be a rain tight seam. Not needed. The bees do a fine job with propolis as you can see in the photo along the bottom edge of the cover.
