I pulled two medium frames that were next to each other, out of a deep brood chamber that were center in the broodnest, just last week. The bees built comb below the bottom bar that extended down to equal the deep frames on either side.

The bees drew one comb with vertical cells, and the other, horizontal cells. Notice too, that the bees chose the horizontal oriented cells to build two queen cells from.
